지난 13일 트루스소셜을 통해 이같이 밝힌 트럼프 당선인은 17일 기자회견에선 “정부가 드론의 출처와 활동을 모두 알고 있지만 이 정보를 대중에게 공개하지 않고 있다”고 주장했다.

드론 목격자들은 밤하늘에 출몰한 드론들이 미 연방항공청(FAA) 규정에 맞지 않는 화려하고 각기 다른 조명을 달고 있다고 증언했다.

목격된 드론들은 소형차 크기로 주로 낮은 고도에서 비행하고 방향을 자유자재로 바꾸거나 한 자리에 몇 시간 동안 떠있는 등 각종 의문을 낳고 있다.

16일엔 “미스터리 드론들은 방사성 물질을 찾고 있다”는 설(設)도 등장했다. 드론 제조업체 ‘색슨 에어로스페이스’의 CEO 존 퍼거슨은 틱톡 계정을 통해 “드론이 주로 밤에 비행하고 낮게 비행하는 유일한 이유는 땅에서 무언가를 찾고 있기 때문”이라며 “드론이 가스 누출 장소나 방사성 물질이 담긴 무언가를 찾고 있을 수 있다”고 말했다.
